Stormed Fortress: Status Updates

Arithon with the Vastmark shepardess… that was solace, but must have been fun in the end!

I guess Arithon forcing Lysaer to chase to all ends of Athera is somewhat of Arithon's definition of fun…

Arithon plying his time honoured family history of piracy…

I'm not sure if you mean Davien as a missing character here… I'm not sure "fun" is how I would characterize that…

His interactions with Lirenda would fall definitely into the fun category… still waiting for the melody Arithon instilled in Lirenda's personal spell crystal to reach closure and conclusion…

All good times. I also think he had fun with that pirate lady (name escapes me - the one who was killed as his ally) when he was teaching her and crew to sail beyond sight of land. Even though he was tied to a mast for much of it.

He also had fun with Lysaer a fair few times back before the mistwraith struck.

Still missed something signal…

Hmmm, new subchapter starting, need to pick out a cd…the last was Cusco's Apurimac III…what to choose for a little mayhem…(little???!!)

Well, it is little, the big and the bigger stuff's just a little hop into the future, page wize…there are no more places to catch your breath from hereforeward, I think…

Quick!!! Someone give this woman an Oxygen Tank!!! Pad the floor with cushions and pillows just in case she swoons from all that breathlessness! Put Don on alert with the smelling salts! Go Janny Go!

I think the time he really had fun was when he made the shadow ships for the street kids the night before the coronation fiasco.

some questions. are we going to hear more/ about eldir s'lornmein of havish? he seems the consummate politician. also who is the heir to shand? arithon? lysaer? thru their mother??

Arithon discovering his magic 'was just like music!' in Rauven - loved that scene - you could just picture his young boy's face, all lit up. Beyond fun I think.

How about duelling with Fionn on ice slick ground with Dakar pulling out his beard and Jealot's huntsmen in full clamor?

(I know I had fun - less fun once he injured his hand though.)

Playing pirate songs with the tysan clans…

I guess he's had more fun than we think…the suffering tends to get centre stage…

Lysaer on the other hand seems to have had very little fun…except politics…I had never given it any thought before…

I'd like to see Arithon kill and feel good afterwards, or at least relieved. I know it would be totally out of character…but I just think some people he met deserved to see the other side of Fate's Wheel…

I think conniving for Arithon is fun…

Setting up the priests in TK was fun…

It may have been hard but I think he had a bit of fun while in Kewar with Davien…

Ah, a nice triplicate set up scene - and - into some tight and fast paced notes…wheee!!

And, And, AND - it's official, the halfway point…I've broken past 450 manuscript pages.

(and on schedule plotwize for that page count, too!)

Howzat for an exuberant update?

All we need is an animated gif of you doing a happy dance…

Or, do some line drawings of Arithon doing a happy dance, and bribe the Gryphon to animate it for us!

Arithon doing a happy dance - now THAT is something we have never seen him do!

Fantastic?!?
That means a whole year till finished.
Another till published.
Another year before it reaches Australia.

And then less than a week to read.

Not to mention the years of abuse at home for the numerous rereads.

Write faster woman.

Excellent news Janny, and don't listen to Maurice, no matter how tongue in cheek. As a fellow aussie, I don't mind a bit of suspense (even a year I can deal with) before the actual read … plus the more time taken, the better the end result eh?

No, it means, finished easily in time for the contracted finish date, June 06.

No FIRM discussion has happened on pub date, yet. Loose conversation only, and it won't be that far out! I have to FINISH the draft before I can project turn in time…and I still hope to turn in sooner.

So - if not fantastic, at least not doom/gloom!

AAAAnd - you'll have a peep shot into the Atheran Universe well before then! (see other stories topic, The Sundering Star thread.)

Janny, does it ever bother you that you put months and months of time, effort and energy to create a wonderful books only to have people ingest it in mere days and immediately demand another one?

I was thinking about this when I finished George RR Martin's A Feast for Crows. It took him YEARS to get it done, and yet a week after it landed in my hands all I can think about is when the next next book (since the next book doesn't continue the treads in the current one) comes out.

Stormed Fortress on my wish list for Christmas 2006 then!

Roll on Christmas 06! (Here's hoping anyway).

And dito to 'winter', good question.

winter - You asked – simply, I do the story - then it's your fun now. What a reader will do, they'll do. They decide how and if they're entertained. If they zap through that fast, they didn't come up for air - well, I figure I just did my job.
