I don't think Janny posted a page count and she is currently at Dragon*Con, so no confirmation until she returns.

Janny i live in Middle east- any chance of test reads coming this way??? for a more international point of view? and also because i can hardly wait for the new book!!!

Shahina, I can't find the link, but Janny only does 2-3 test reads for each book, and these are for very specific people. Believe me, we'd all like to see an advanced copy, or give our perspective on an early version and see our input carried through to the final copy, but it probably wonn't ever happen.
Here's the take on test reads: I have enough of them.
Nor do I need more.
The job's not that glamorous, wading thru draft & relating the way the on page flow "plays" - so I can correct course as need be, to be sure the readers come down on the emotional foot that is close enough to "centerline" concept for the story to work.
Test reads largely replace the fact that "editors" have no time anymore. So the story better be on track before turn in.
They just help me catch inconsistencies and "fix" areas that may cloud understanding - it's not very profound.
And the gag order that goes with it cannot be much fun.
so…thanks for your willingness, but firmly - the story will be available to all when it is damnwell ready.

The gag order would not be a problem for me - I would LOVE the opportunity to lord it over someone - "I know what's going on, without having to second guess Janny!" ![]()

Blue,
Then we might have to give a new meaning to the word 'gag order' specially for you.

Lol Blue! I already have to keep quiet about a few things since my Hubby is so SLOW at reading stuff, and all he keeps asking me about this series is "Is it done yet?". So, a gag order wouldn't bother me if I got to preview some Janny stuff.
Of course like any entertainment in progress, you may not enjoy the final product as much if you were perusing bits and pieces of it beforehand.

Nice try at the downplay on test reading, Janny, but it seems none of us are buying it! *grin*
So… ![]()
Ah, at last…a string of small deadlines DONE.
Two short stories, one painting.
The painting should appear in the gallery, at some point.
I just have a little polish work to do on the second short story draft, and THEN - back to Stormed Fortress…

One painting? Two short stories?
Well, I guess I should be the one to start the river of drool…
[Sounds of gushing water, and a large woman yelling, WAY TO GO JANNY!!]

Can all those drooling kindly step *back* from the paintings…
Congrats Janny!!

I know you really enjoy your work Janny but how on earth (or Athera) do you get so much of it done???
So with the pleasant distractions of DragonCon, your painting and two short stories almost over are you itching to get back to the main event or do you prefer the smaller projects?
Also could you fill us in on how far into SF you are (a % would do). It's just that every time you mention your progress it seems as if the chapters are flying out daily! Sounds like this book is going to be another belter! Here's Hoping.
Happy writing Janny (is there any other kind?!?)

OOPS! Stepping back… offers Janny a drool-proof container for each item with abashed little grin. ![]()
nathan - first off, because I do enjoy it…!!!
and next, because it is a requisite quality of professional attitude. You accept a thing, you do it. There isn't room in the arts for slackers.
And it's now official, I am back on the novel, which is at its pivotal (halfway) chapter. After this point, I have very very tight notes, so it will, I hope, fly like crazy from here.
For tonight, however, a beer and a DVD movie, to relax and sigh with enjoyment after another deadline, well met!
And tomorrow, erg, shop for bathtub fittings. How ordinary can you get? One day the stars…next day, the drains…grin.

Janny,
I replaced my kitchen faucet. I'd be happy to attempt your bathtub fitting if you need extra help so you can write. ![]()
Susan - appreciate the offer, but - this is a bit more than a faucet. The master bath is being ripped to studs…well, in process of. Don did tub demolition last weekend…now we have to buy all new fittings. The in goes a nice jet tub & new shower.
New water saving pot, ordered. Sink, already here, in marble. Cool. Vanity - drawn out but not commissioned…floor pattern - drawn, slate about to be ordered…so it's a major job.
We've been planning it well over a year.
Deadlines caught up. Errands done. nothing on list (except growing grass…lawn needs it again, but that's later today)
New board gessoed for another painting.
Hans Zimmer on the cd (Soundtrack from Black Hawk Down, which has lots of variation, and even, track 3 may have been inspiration for Firefly's theme; at least there are tonal and instrumental similaries - neither detracts from the other)
And - a chapter scene underway - let's see what makes Sidir tick…hmmmm?

Ah, the subtle sadism of creating artists
Good luck on the bath tub!
