Question about clansmen

Hi,

I was wondering, I remember reading that there were some areas that wood could not be cut so they have to collect from the dropped branches etc. Given the annoyance of the troops it’s assumed that it is in some way enforced or they would have ignored it entirely. Is the same true for the clansmen who are the guardians of the space?

If you’re asking who enforces the Compact for the Clansmen, I think it’s themselves, collectively, or ultimately the Fellowship if there’s a serious problem.
The Clansmen are much more magically-attuned to the world in general than the townspeople and they have an easier time directly seeing why the Compact is in place rather than having to follow rules by rote, and they’ve maintained a lot more knowledge about the Compact than the towns have. Also because they live in the wilds, the various places that they can and can’t go and what they can and can’t do are much more immediately relevant to them than to the towns. So they enforce these rules for themselves, and I’d assume the Fellowship would step in if something went badly wrong and there was a trespass that wasn’t corrected.

I imagine you’re right re the day of day of it all and the clansmen being more habitually inclined towards it. I guess what I’m looking at is if Lysaers troops had stomped into the free wilds and cut down trees where they were told not to would theyre be some divine retribution (like the spells that affect you when you step out of bounds - like Davien) or are they relying on see it, say it, try and chase up a culprit? And is there any wiggle room given to the clans on these rules are they’re often having to survive out there? Can they do so ritually like the druids might when they cut trees? Or are there times of year they’re allowed? Or is it one rule no matter what?

There is some information regarding clan rule, and its purpose in the appendix in Stormed Fortress. You may also find tidbits in the FAQ on the website. Certainly, a functional view is provided in the novella, The Gallant.

Nutshell view: town law was free will, governed by the Mayors - that law DID NOT APPLY in the free wilds.

Clanborn were tested to withstand contact with Paravians and high resonance sites not subject to permitted development. They were charged to guard and patrol to prevent infractions and incursions, to ‘map’ which sections were safe or not safe when they served as escort across proscribed territory, and to DEFEND! those sites forbidden to human trespass. ANYONE who proved able to withstand full contact was accepted; most did not care to, or dare to, make the unshielded attempt.

High Kings (or Queens) acted as FACE TO FACE LIAISON with living Paravians: to petition for Mankind’s request for changes to charter law, way rights, building, and said petitions were not always granted. Further: they were the ARBITERS of Charter Law where town infringement affected Paravian survival, or proscribed territory trespassed in violation. King’s Justice had no appeal, the higher authority at the apex of the interface was the Fellowship Sorcerers who stood SURETY for the tenets of Charter Law, which was RATIFIED by terms of the Compact made with the Paravian Council in unified Conclave with THE DRAGONS of the Protectorate.

This ‘system’ was not created as ‘heirarchy’ but a template to preserve Athera’s sustainability FOR THE SURVIVAL OF THE PARAVIANS. All ‘limitations’ served upon Mankind’s terms of permit for residency were subservient to this purpose.
