Into the final lap; I've keyed in the rough, first pass changes to the last two chapter sets; now to mill them fine.
Not too much longer…

Janny are there any plans to do anything special for the hardcover edition? I really liked the extra artwork Meisha Merlin included in their trade paperback and hardcover editions of Traitor's Knot. I have some of the Harper/Voyager hardcovers and was a bit disappointed there were no nice little extras.
Whew, Annette, once I get this monster turned in, I will find out, eh?
It's getting near enough, now, that I can start a 'count down' of pages left to process; since my post at 1:54 today, I've marked up NINE - which leaves - let's see - EXACTLY - 162 pages in manuscript left to mark up…then run backwards, key in, spell check, and proof…it's a race to see if I can DO THIS by the turn of the month…that's pushing very hard…
I will keep y'all posted…

More pretty pictures are all good and well - in fact I would very much like a lovingly and extensively illustrated historical collection of the timelines, the characters, the worlds, the conflicts, the organizations, Paravian language and more. Which I suspect will require Janny to hunt down and organize every scrap of notepad, napkin, post-it note and scribble from the last 30 years or so.
but AFTER the series is written and we have Arc V's book in our hot little hands and we find out how this little shindig ends up.

Good luck Janny, but do not work too hard that it is no longer fun, too much work and no play is not good. We waited this long so an extra month on top of the minimum 8 months to publish is not going to kill us. By next Christmas would be nice though.
139…
(publishers, Annette, require lead time for production; and I have to paint the cover, so soonest is best!)
Had to loop back and correct a detail; finished 13's Main chapter's mark up today. That leaves 131 pages to go.

It's A-L-M-O-S-T enough to cause one to start snippet mongering, all over again.
Repeat: A-L-M-O-S-T
O.K. I'll behave (as much as I ever do) now…

Mark, I shall join you in your noble cause of A-L-M-O-S-T snippet mongering

That was a quick 10 pages.
Actually Janny might have a snippet in reserve. I seem to remember we were choosing between Asandir or a tiny clip that won't spoil, of Arithon. We ended up with Asandir, unless the tiny bit of Arithon was the bit Dakar tried to eat.
quote:'Dakar bit down on the hand that fed him hard enough to draw blood.'
I always picture Arithon on the receiving end of that bite for some reason, looking forward to one day reading what the response was. There is a good reason why they have that saying about not biting the hand that feeds you, anyone else and Dakar would have probably learned his lesson.
A snippet to celebrate when Janny turns the finished manuscript in might liven the place up a bit.

Or perhaps we should wait. Reading all those nice snippets we were already given only seemed to make me more more impatient to read the book.

OTOH, maybe Dakar is biting a Koriathain hand since he screwed up so much in the end of Stormed Fortress? Methinks he's going to owe them a debt in IT.

What high rank Koriathain would bother hand feeding Dakar though? Even though the low rank healers might, would Dakar really be silly enough to risk owing the order an oath of debt they would only use against Arithon. The Koriathain have not precisely shown much interest in helping those they consider the enemies of the order, they would be unlikely to volunteer to help Dakar, unless it was to help him pass the wheel. Dakar's very nature seems to indicate he would bite someone he would know would not retaliate back with anything but words. He would be too much the coward to bite a sorcerer, or probably even a Koriathain.

But methinks Dakar does owe an oath of debt to the Koriathain as he truly messed up at the end of Stormed Fortress. And I think biting the hand is a metaphor…
Muaaahhaaaahaaaa - not a metaphor!!! Grin. This is DAKAR.
Oh yeah, despite two outings/errands today, AT THIS MOMENT, 117 pages to go…

Oh, all right, :p, I missed the quote above. Not a metaphor, indeed. But a Koriani.

And horrah on 117.

But way back when Janny was writing an early chapter (4 or before) Janny had this to say about Dakar.
quote:By Janny Wurts on Friday, May 23, 2008 - 04:19 pm:
Sometimes bringing these books up to speed make me Rip Out My Hair! (It's all Dakar's fault, today).
I always say, it takes me until chapter Set 5 to hit stride…and this one, so far, is proving to be a hair raiser (that's what I get for not repeating the same plotline, or doing the predictable…)
Holding the fat prophet in line as an apprentice isn't the half of the mess - writing his next line would, absolutely, challenge a Fellowship Sorcerer to fits…
Once, I could count on him tripping over his own feet and throwing in a monkey wrench or three, by way of forehead slapping stupidity…
Now, he's not so blooming stupid…
I do not think Dakar would be stupid enough to bite a Koriani, taste test was around chapter 6 I think. Dakar does not feel like eating when he is recovering from a fit of prescience or using strong magecraft, he could be a prisoner or perhaps injured.
