How long do people live in Athera?

For reference, I’m on chapter 12 of the first book.

If it’s not a big spoiler, I’m wondering how long people live in this world. The sorcerers have clearly been around a long, long time, but how long do regular people live?

They seem occasionally to have exceptionally good knowledge about events five hundred years earlier, before the Mistwraith. Which of course could be facilitated by the sorcerers’ personal knowledge, but the latter don’t seem to be running any schools. Desperate ragtag bands of refugees might be hard-pressed to retain cultural memory so long.

So do people live longer than we do, such that five hundred years is just two or three generations, and they’ve heard the stories from their parents or grandparents? Or is there some other mechanism of transmission going on? Or are they just remembering the central oral tradition and not other details to the side?

I’m also wondering if the answer is different for Athera and the other worlds. Our main characters do not seem to have anything like the same knowledge of the past that the people who stayed on Athera, or are descended from those who did, do.

Loving the series so far. Just wondering about this point from time to time.

Thanks!

I’d recommend assuming the human lifespan on Athera has the same potential as that on Earth. Of course, that varies relative to living conditions and other factors.
As you read further, you’ll discover more about the social and governmental structures and traditions; and the ways knowledge is maintained, shared and passed down.

Hope this helps…

Thanks for responding to this!

The lifespans of ‘regular people’ – will vary just a little bit, depending on where they live. Regional variations are reflected by conditions relative to the planetary vibration - as will become clearer going forward. I may have put some notes in this regard into the Appendix material found in Stormed Fortress after the glossary.

The short answer: it’s complicated/to attempt to explain at the stage where you are in your reading. Easier to approach after the finish of the final volume as you would have the referent points in place to understand why.
