Janny, should your trove of secrets ever surface after Song of the Mysteries is published, I would happily volunteer to curate and preserve it in the way that best serves the series and your copyright needs!
Ha - thanks Brian!!! Laughing because, when I reach a certain point, I was planning to ask you anyhow. PS check your e mail…
I put up the announcement on FaceBook - if y'all want to share it, lay it on!
Thanks!!!

Long time lurker, but the question on the Grimwards got me curious, so…
From the map online (easier to view than in my ebooks) I get 10:
1. Havish - 2
a. N of Vhalzein/S of Redburn
b. Scarpdale
2. Tysan - 3
a. N of Mincross
b. E of Middlecross
c. N of Athain Tower (N of Bittern Desert)
3. Rathain - 2
a. Near shore of Vastrait (in Ithilt)
b. Daon Ramon Barens
4. Melhalla
a. Radmoore
5. Shand
a. N edge of Sanpahir Desert
6. W Shand
a. Salt Fens
Am I missing any that are on the maps? This assumes that Rockfell is not a Grimward.

There is at least one Grimward on Kathtairr, and I seem to recall the one Jieret encountered was not on the map, that was in Tysan I think.
Maybe Ath's creation is contained within a Grimward? I figured Janny would get to it eventually. I got the impression the missing Grimward was not on Athera.

i always thought some grimwards were under water

Even if some are on land that sank, and is now underwater, it does not explain there being 18 Grimwards but only 17 of them being on Athera.
"all of Athera's seventeen grimwards would have to be tested to guarantee their stability"
-Grand Conspiracy
The 18th Grimard did not need checking, so was not affected by the upset Morriel caused, it was not on Athera, yet it is listed at Althain tower, so where is it?

Although I looked further and found this clue.
"The spells he commanded bloomed and burned in straight lines, their withering light raised to hold eighteen grimwards secure through Morriel’s firestorm of deranged lane force."
-Grand Conspiracy
So Morriel's upset could have affected the 18th Grimward, yet it still does not seem to be on Athera.

so on a gate world?

If it was on a gate world, it would not need to be protected from the upset Morriel caused. Upset lane forces on Athera should not affect a Grimward on another planet, even one connected by a gate. And we have never heard of one being on a gate world, no dragons seem to have gone anywhere but through the north gate. No Paravians would have gone through the north gate, so I do not think there would be a grimward there.

Hi.
I seen to remember that the lanes that ran undersea didn't need direct Fellowship management because (I think) they are managed naturally by undersea dwellers of some sort. If there's only one grimward on Kathtairr, the ocean itself might have provided a sufficient buffer to protect it from Morriel's action.
The combination of salt water's tendency to restrict arcane force, and lane management by creatures whose could act free of human interference in their environment may have made a difference.
Also, Kathtairr doesn't appear on the map of Paravia; at least not on the website.
Hope this helps more than hinders…

I think there would be more than one Grimward on Kathtairr, we are missing a fair few of the 17 mentioned.
The lanes that ran through water were not deranged by Morriel's sabotage, yet Sethvir still needed to hold the 18th Grimward stable, does not seem like it would be underwater, it does not seem to be on land, yet it is close enough it can be affected by Athera's magnetics?
It surrounds Athera?
It is beyond the veil?
It is underground?
It is on the moon?
In the sun?
Some other realm connected to Athera?
An alternate plane of existance
Ath's creation is held within a grimward?
Some where else?

Lot's of interesting possibilities…
------------------
The glossary in Destiny's Conflict states that "seventeen separate sites" are listed at Althain Tower.
I wonder what about the 18th grimward would cause it to not be listed even though Sethvir is aware of it?

It just occurred to me that there might be a new grimward since the end of Stormed Fortress. There was mention of a drake war.
