No Wai!!!
I put my order through my local Angus & Robertson store and they told me I'd have to wait until MARCH, when "Australia gets their shipments in"…
What would I need to order one from ye Mark?
I have PayPal, or I can DBT…I want this book so bad! (laneth.shadow @ gmail.com)
(I'm currently trying to wrap my brains about the plotting of Mara of the Acoma in the Empire trilogy…Janny - your mind for politics & intrigue makes mine that of a cave-man!)

Janny,
Tekno sends out contributor's copies - Usually they are pretty good in getting them out shortly after the release date. I haven't received my Editor's Copies…though I have bought one, courtesy of Bakka Books in Toronto, who received their copies late Wednesday.
In truth, they had just unpacked the boxes, and it wasn't even up on the shelf yet - so I bought their first "book"

UNDER COVER OF DARKNESS Book Launch
If anyone here is in Toronto, the book launch is going to be February 24, 2007 at 1pm, at:
The Merril Collection of Science Fiction, Speculation and Fantasy
(A special collection of the Toronto Public Library)
239 College Street, 3rd Floor
Toronto, Ontario
In addition to Julie and I, attending authors include: Douglas Smith, Amanda Bloss Maloney, Stephen Kotowych, Darwin Garrison, and Jihane Noskateb. I also have stickers from Janny.
If you can't make the launch, but are interested in a signed copy of the anthology, Bakka Phoenix is accepting mail-orders. You may contact the Manager of the store via email at: (email removed). They ship globally.
We are also running an UNDER COVER OF DARKNESS themed game at Ad Astra (A local convention) the weekend of March 2-4 (www.ad-astra.org), which will culminate in a second book event with the authors.

And in case anyone isn't certain about whether to read Janny's Athera story?
Barnes and Noble did a review of UNDER COVER - and said, "The Sundering Star" by Wurts is perhaps the collection's most outstanding work."
It goes on, but don't go looking for it. Trust me - the joy and excitement of Janny's story is best left to actually sitting down and reading it.
It's terrific - and a story well worth savouring.
And because I have to ::Glow:: BN also said nice things about other stories … Larry Niven's and Doranna Durgin's – and it called Amanda Bloss Maloney and Stephen Kotowych "talented newcomers"

What's going on at the book launch? Readings? General milling around? Doesn't Merril have a rule against food/drinks?
I was thinking about running over to Bakka but the windchill warning is a big deterrent. I guess I'll wait for the book launch now. Although that means I need to wait 3 weeks to read the story!

The book launch at the Merril will include short readings by each of the authors, time for chatting/getting books signed, etc.
I doubt you can bring food in from the outside, but there will be snacks/drinks there.

Still waiting for my copy…
I'm sure it will be mind blowing and a teaser until SF gets into our hot little hands…

Don't have the book yet. But have heard the story twice at cons during Janny's readings. It is a very good story and everyone should enjoy it very much. Other then that better not say anything until people have read it.

Yeah, I'm on edge of seat, too, wondering how this bit is being received…I do realize those who have read it or been to a reading know very well it's a bit explosive on the spoilers, so they better be careful what they say, straight off…
The material here is far removed from current history, but it will open some nice windows …! into areas readers have speculated about.

Hopefully mine should arrive either tomorrow or Thursday. *crosses fingers* Now to make it last until December when I come back from Russia and can finally get ahold of Stormed Fortress (that's if the date of Nov publish is correct?)
Oh and apologies Janny for taking so long to read through Ships of Merior (Russian edition). From what I can tell it seems to be a good translation but my english copy is at my parents house. >.<

I found one… and read the story immediately… am I the first to say something about it?
Amazing story Janny, not what I thought it might be but it has given me several new things to think about regarding the overall story arc (and I suspect we'll get the other information later, perhaps in story).
Spoilers ahead!
So… Calum Kincaid's weapon was similar to the Sun Crusher? Interesting. I should like to hear more about this D= I had a feeling right from the beginning about the desert people, but it took me a few minutes to click with Jessian what she was all about. I had no idea the Biedar were so powerful~! Jessian's revelation toward the end was something I particularly liked, how in trying to save them she'd insulted them by not allowing them to choose their own fate. I wonder if Scathac is high-resonance similarly to Athera? In any case, this may be setting the stage for a showdown between the Koriani and the Biedar…
Okay, you can look now =)
Overall, Janny, fantastic story. How do you do it? *cry* However you manage, please keep them coming! <3

HELP…I looked in both borders and books a million and both stores said they were not carrying it. What bookstores in the US are carrying this?
originally posted by Trys
Hi Thom,
Either of those bookstores should be able to order the book for you. If they won't then they are not worth supporting… at least in my opinion.
As an FYI, Books A Million lists it on their website, so the chain is carrying it and your local store certainly can order it. Barnes and Noble also list it on their site. Borders uses Amazon.com as their website so I can't check further than that.
Good hunting.

Don't even get me started on Borders.
I did a spur of the moment MUST HAVE THIS STORY NOW run to Borders (closest store) but forgot to refresh my memory as to the exact book title and author. No biggie I thought since I remembered it as being authored by one of my numerous favorites and I scan all those authors anyway when I visit a book store. Well, couldn't find the book anywhere, not in the new section, not under authors I think it is, and trying to find the compilation section is akin to sifting a sand pile for a speck of dirt The staff were nice and tried to be helpful, but nobody knew what I was talking about and apparently the store search tool didn't know either, even though I knew when it was released.
Temporarily thwarted and steaming mad by this point, I made the longer journey to Barnes & Noble and walah, found it in less than five minutes of looking and also spotted a new James P. Hogan hardback, which Borders also didn't have.
I don't know if our Borders is representative of the chain in general or what. I do know that I hate that store and wish the Barnes & Noble was closer.
Anybody wishing to get a copy of Under Cover of Darkness, signed by some of the authors and both of the editors at the Launch Party can call (or order online) from Bakka Books.

The launch party I believe is this weekend so don't delay!

I made a run to Indigo Books, part of the Chapters/Coles/Indigo chain, as it was the only nearby bookstore to have Under Cover of Darkness. I wanted to buy two copies, one for myself and one for my best friend, who got to meet Jana when she helped me with my move from King City to Richmond Hill.
They only had one copy. At the checkout, I mentioned that I would have bought MORE copies, if they had been in stock. The clerk glanced at the title, then shrugged, and went back to what she'd been doing before she'd rung in my sale. She looked to be one of their older, more responsible employees, too… Oh well, their loss, Bakka's gain!
