It has been a long while with no news because life has been so busy…I set out to write another Novella, sequel to Verrain’s story begun in The Gallant - and it got way wider and way deeper than I anticipated due to the timing in history (100 years later than The Gallant, and 500 years prior to Curse of the Mistwraith) - in fact, the ramifications of this story on the greater historical period are MASSIVE, and … well, it grew. It is not a novella. Top end for length for that format (Hugo rules) is 40,000 words. This manuscript (at last word count, pre final polish) topped out at 64,400 words which means, IT’S A NOVEL - albeit a short one.
I have completed the final polish pass and now am key entering the hand marked changes from the paper printout of the manuscript - putting the timeline up to PROOF READ the final text.
When that bit is done, I have engaged an editor to check commas, hyphens, little stuff as needed, then it is time to PAINT COVER ART.
What you can expect?
The full treatment. I plan to do chapter graphics, interior art, a glossary - the works - as a single release and as a ominbus with The Gallant - how it will reach paper print is not yet determined, but I am aiming for some sort of edition.
The story: will pick up stuff that is merely MENTIONED in the larger series, will expand and destroy assumptions about huge events in history - and - take you to places on Athera you HAVE NOT SEEN YET. I am excited, this has been long in the making, and it will be in your hands once the last stages (art, proof, edit, formatting, path to release) are completed.
There are MORE stories set in this world that are underway (in fragments, note files, extensive research) but I will likely work them in the background while I complete Sailing the Whirlwind.
