I read(?) once that there are 2 things one can find everywhere in the world:

1) Coca cola
2) Michael Jackson t-shirt

I think that a Harry Potter book is shortly to become no. 3

Hello everyone, well, I have finished Anselm Audley's HERESY, it's well written, though there are a number of printing errors throughout the book.

It's worth reading, according to what's written about this author in the book, he is now only 23 years old, in my opinion he will improve with age.

I will start the second part of this trilogy soon, it's called INQUISITION, I have yet to obtain the third part, which is called CRUSADE. Skol from Laurence.

I just got a copy of the Women of War anthology. (From Bakka - the Manager called me the second it arrived).

So far I am enjoying it. I've even managed *not* to flip right to my story. I am trying to read it like any other book.

Thanks exciting Jana. When do you think the stores will get it in the US? I hope soon.

I meant that's exciting Jana. I wrote thanks instead. lol

Cheryl,

I imagine it should be out in the US anytime. I know one person who has already found a copy. Technically the release date is next week, so I'd say start looking then - anything earlier is just luck.

I never do that with anthologies, I always look over the author names and then read them in the order I want to read them.

That's what I do too Trys. I just read the ones I want to read first and the stories that sound the best. You are good to read it in order Sandtiger. lol Thanks I'll start looking next week. It was very special to get that book from you at WFC last year Jana. Thanks again for the autographs in it. Love it and your story makes it even more special.

Julie Czerneda once told me that she, and most editors, take special care in picking the order stories go in for an anthology. Every since then, I've always tried to read stories in order - so I can get a sense of their rationale.

Most people I know do read their prefered authors first - and I don't blame them. ::laugh:: But I also wanted to see how my story fits - and I figured the best way of doing that was reading them in order.

Oh I didn't realize that. That is interesting. I'll have to try to read them in order then but I'm in the habit of going by favorite author now. lol I'm not a big short story person but there are exceptions. lol I need to read some more short stories.

I have started on 'Wraeththu's second trilogy by Storm Constantine. I'm still floored by this series, it is so intense and don't even mention that I have been interested in those who break gender roles. [must be an afterburn from the seventies womens movement] I very much recommend these to all. 'Wraiths of Will and Pleasure' is the first, and 'Shades of Time and Memory' is number two. there is also a fan fiction surrounding this series that isn't half bad being that nonprofessional authors are writing it. I am always amazed when an author allows that because it would be like turning your baby over to a strange babysitter. It would be a hard thing to do. [smiling at ya]

I'm rereading an old favourite book of mine, it is Don Quixote by Cervantes.

On short stories I'm of the opinion that there are not enough short story collections around, since I like to read them on the 20 minute train ride to work.

Usually I'll read fiction magazines for that, but yesterday I bought Magic for Beginners by Kelly Link and the women of War anthology.

Also on anthologies it is probably just me but I tend to read the 1st and last stories first and then look for my preferred authors in the anthology.

I've always read anthologies from beginning to end, in order, except the Masters of Fantasy where I read about the first two stories then had to skip to Janny's!

If you haven't tried the Sword and Sorceress anthologies, they are really good reading. They are all short stories with female protagonists and some are clever twists on the usual traditional tales.

Auna,

I agree regarding the Sword & Sorceresses anthologies. MZB helped many an author with those anthologies.

I'm going to have to read those books. I don't understand the fuss but from a sample I read of those books, her writing seems really great. I do enjoy the movies but I'm sure the books are way better. I hear they are.

They are a wonderful blend of humor, charm, rich personalities, scary moments, sad moments, and painful growth moments. They are not dumbed down for children - a pet peeve I had as a kid. There are no guarantees that everyone will live happily ever after and in fact there have already been a few deaths. Quite enjoyable reading for adults and I strongly recommend reading at least the first one to see what I mean.

Finished Harry Potter this morning in about three-four hours. Definitely not J.K.'s best work. XP Maybe reading Janny has spoiled me, but I managed to work out everything that was going to happen before it did.

Sometimes you get all built up and then it's not as good as you expect. Maybe that happened with the latest HP book for you Konran. I hope others enjoy it. So many are looking forward to it. I'm going to start reading these once I finish Traitor's Knot and a few others I'm reading now. Janny knows I read several at once. LOL I hope her eyes aren't popping out again. lol just teasing.

I agree with Konran re the new HP release from JK Rowling - it wouldn't rank as my favourite of the HP books. However, that's not to say I didn't enjoy the read! I kept turning the pages until my eyes failed me (having gone to the store at midnight to pick the book up!!) and then continued where I left off as soon as I woke the next day.

Despite the book not being my favourite of the series, I envisage I will be in the bookstore at midnight for the next release also - the "final" book will probably be a bigger draw than any of the preceeding ones…
